The following pictures were taken during my first-ever trip to Japan in November 2011. Please excuse my modest photography skills.

Very nice pictures! I am collecting quite a few pictures of Japan, and I have been in a few of the same places. I hope to get to Nara before we leave.

Where to begin??? I have lived in Japan for nearly 4 years.

About 2 weeks after we arrived. This was for Obon at the neighborhood temple. We have gone there every year, this year will be the 5th time, and probably the last.

Thankyou for the response. Loads of grammatical errors in my video text ...but I say "you have to do and try ..or you never learn".
Thanks for the explanation of 前は in that other post. A classic example of me still trying to find english translations for japanese phrases that just don't have any english equivalents. It's a long road to think in japanese....but the journey's fun.

Good idea for the pics. Such a Beautiful country.

All my pictures are cell phone pics of after work drinking and craziness. The one time I took my D60 over, my SD card got corrupted and I lost all my awesome pics of Nagasaki, Tokyo, and Bahrain. I was a little mad. Maybe I'll post a few of the better ones from my phone.

I'm taking my good camera when I go back at the end of the month.

Darren10: No worries. We all make mistakes and that's how we learn. I tend to be lazy and end up not learning why certain aspects of a language work that way. The 前は is an example of that. I remember my Japanese teacher explaining it but I didn't go into greater details. Digging deep can sometimes reveal more interesting stuff.

closetredneck: Yeah, I was quite paranoid about backing up and making sure I had two copies at least of everything on separate mediums. Too bad about your pictures. You can post your cellphone pictures... everything is welcomed!

Here is a (very boring) video of landing at Kagoshima Airport. The video quality is low because it was captured by my outdated cameraphone.

Interesting thread, and seeing as I made my first trip to Japan in December, one I'll add to ^_^

So first is a video of a Christmas illumination in Osaka. This was part of the Hikari Renaissance, and as you can probably see from the video was amazing.

Wow, quite amazing I must say! I think it's better if you can embed the video so it's more inviting for other to check (make sure you change the width to 640 and height to 360 to take full advantage of the forum's real estate).

There was this lovely musical fountain show at Kyoto Station. It's not as impressive as the one you shot but still nice to see :-)
