Racism, low birth rate, robots

Racism, low birth rate, robots

Postby dewyatt » Fri Jun 18, 2010 3:06 pm

I just thought I would post this Vanguard episode:

I thought the idea of Japanese culture being racist was interesting.
I think it may be true to a degree but I've never actually been there.
The woman's story about Japanese mothers pulling their kids away from her kid was sad.
I also didn't realize there was such a low birth rate and low frequency of sex in general.

I find that kind of creepy and sad at the same time. They have half as much sex as Americans do... I feel kinda sorry for them. XD

As someone who's lived in Japan for a year, and by coincidence been to a robot exhibition, this video was very well made indeed.

I think the word 'racist' in the sense that we think of racism in the western world is inaccurate when describing the xenophobia of Japanese culture. I would not describe Japanese culture as racist in the light that you'd think of discrimination against African-Americans or native peoples. There is definitely discrimination though. It just doesn't come from a hate or belittling of foreigners as much as a fear of cultural confrontation.

Very good video though.

Man oh man! If I could multiply myself into 110,000 + clones I could surely help Japan with it's rapidly decreaseing population problem and birth rate decline. But sadly, I am just 1 man  . I think that evryone enjoys the single life and the freedom that it brings. No homework, No parents, No kids, No hassell, and total happiness  . I have met many Japanese women well into thier 30's that are still single and looking, and the number is going up every year  . I think that Japan should consider letting imigration reform work it's magic. But, I know that they don't want to let their culture go! They hate nikei jins and they hate mixing their culture with another culture but what else is there to do? Japanese men always go for the younger, prettier girl and that also hurts Japan cause a woman should be loved even if she gets old and loses her attractiveness she is still in need of love and happiness. I love the Japanese culture because of its unique style and trend but I would hate to see it disappear and vanish into the night :x . I will do my part and study Japanese harder to keep this fire from dying out. Let us all do our part ne!

Yeah, I would say they are racist, but its more of a xenophobia rather than traditional racism we understand in western countries.

Also, I wonder about the low frequency of sex thing.... how can they really tell how much sex people are having? Maybe it is a societal taboo about kissing and telling that causes those surveys to end up with low figures?

So in the future Japan will be filled with foreigners and robots and japanese people will be extinct. that is really depressing.
