Re: Going to Osaka

Only Osaka? 2 weeks is quite a long time, and given how fast it is to travel to other places by bullet train, I would advise you perhaps go on at least 1 or 2 short trips to other places. When I used to go to Japan I used Kobe (right next to Osaka) as my central hub, then travelling to Kyoto, Nara, ...

Re: I'm Back!

If you're hoping for any new content from the last 10 months... I think you might be disappointed. I can't think of anything that has come out in that time-frame from YJ.

Re: Post Japanese language videos *HERE*!

Great vids. You speak well. Those vids would be good for intermediate speakers, but I like how you provide subs for some of the less commonly used words. Also, 「主人公」 is now in my vocab. 8) I never talk about books etc much, so I didn't know it. Strangely enough I already knew 吸血鬼 though- funny what ...

Re: my one year promise.

The problem is that Japanese tend to care more about superficial sh$# like "what university you went to" rather than anything else. So without a degree, getting your foot in the door could be hard. Do your best and prove my gut feeling wrong!

Re: Continue your Japanese studies after YesJapan...

I think that the grammar fundamentals of the YJ courses are good, but a lot of the problems that any speaker of a foreign language might have is lacking vocab. No matter how much I study, that's the bit where I am always learning more. The thing is how to get a good list of vocabulary which is all a...

Re: need some help!

"Touch all the orange marks to delete them all. If the red marks appear, the rate at which the orange marks will appear will increase. Be careful!"

That's the gist of it, anyway.

Re: Rice and chopsticks

When eating "curry", the accepted method is to use a spoon. I think because "curry" is seen as a "foreign" food, a spoon is actually the preferred eating utensil. I used to insist upon eating it with chopsticks (after all, for me it didn't seem any harder to eat than, s...

Re: fan-subbing J-dramas

From what i'd heard, the part of fan-subbing which is the worst is the timing. Writing the scripts isn't too bad, but watching and re-watching in order to fix the timing must be a massive pain. I lack your enthusiasm... I have been watching J-dramas recently (currently Hotaru no Hikari 2, which just...

Using HOSHII vs. HISHIGARU

Maybe you mean 「HOSHIGARU」?? I wasn't part of the discussion, but I think you might have made a typo.

Re: arimasu/imasu

I'm curious, too. All I can think of is である・であります as a formal form of です, which doesn't seem right, though. You can use that when talking about animate things too, but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting the one that you're thinking of. Please, enlighten us! The question has been open for long enough, a...

Re: arimasu/imasu

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say... by tall/short... if it's *people* then it should be います. If it's buildings etc, then it should be あります, I believe.
