Relating to questions 2, 4, and 5 on the reading comprehension on pg 124...
I understand the use of が to connect like/dislike to the thing being liked or disliked, but I'm unsure about が vs は in other parts of the sentence.
For example, for question 4, the answer key implies the answer could be さとこさんがすきです。 or さとこさんがかいものがすきです。
Can it not be さろこさんはかいものがすきです。? Why?

Q4: だれが かいものが すきですか。(DARE GA KAIMONO GA SUKI DESUKA)
= Who likes shopping?
A4: さとこさんが すきです。(SATOKO-SAN GA SUKI DESU)
= Satoko likes (shopping.)
Q5: だれが りょこうが すきですか。(DARE GA RYOKOU GA SUKI DESUKA)
= Who likes traveling?
A5: さとこさんと よしおさんが すきです。
= Satoko and Yoshio like (traveling.)
When a question word is the topic of the sentence (だれ/DARE),
GA must be used instead of WA and the answer must follow the same pattern as the question. That is why GA is used in answers #4 and #5.
It is explained in Course 1 Lesson 3 Grammar PART 4 "The particle GA". Please take a look :)
