If I switch the "de" with a "ni" would that change it to "where is the party?".I've been having trouble with the "de" particle. I know its a destination marker but for some reason my brain can't figure out where it needs to be in a sentence. Any advice on that would be great. Domo arigatou | |||||

This is a good question. The location marker NI is used when you talk about the place where an item/someone is located. Then the event location marker DE tells you where an event (like parties, shopping, eating) takes place. In this conversation, A is asking B where an event (a party) takes place, therefore you need to use the event location marker DE. Here are some examples using DE. 1) いつも買い物はどこでしますか。 Itsumo kaimono wa doko de shimasuka. Where do you always shop at? 2) 夏祭りはどこでありますか。 Natsu matsuri wa doko de arimasuka. Where is the summer festival going to be (held) at? 3) 昼ごはんはどこで食べますか。 Hirugohan wa doko de tabemasuka. Where do you eat lunch at? Let me ask you a question using DE. Nihon no yuki-matsuri (snow festival) wa doko de arimasuka. | ||

The answer is; Hokkaidou de arimasu. It is (held) in Hokkaido. I have never been to Hokkaido, so I would love to go there and see the snow festival :) | ||

Sensei kanakosan, ever since they revamped the website my lessons haven't been loading. Is that something you can help me with?
