member since 2011 Aug 23 Questions: 7 Comments: 12 | こんにちは! あいかわらず、質問がもう一つあります I was reading through the New Testament from the Bible today and I came across the によって. I looked it up on Denshi Jisho and found out that it means "according to; by(means of); due to; because of." My question is to what extent (if any) can this be used interchangebly with で, which has the similar meaning of "by(means of)? What are some key differences? Oh and I'll put part of the passage: For the sake of context, it's talking about being able to recognize false prophets according to their fruit (or deeds). あなたがたは、実によって彼らを見分けることができます。 Anata-gata wa mi ni yotte karera wo miwakeru koto ga dekimasu. "By their fruit you will recognize them." (Matt 7:16). | |||||
