I like this question. In modern Japan both ganjitsu mean "New Year's Day" however more specifically GANTAN refers to the morning of January 1st.However you cannot say GANTAN NO ASA (morning of GANTAN) since the KANJI 旦 contained within In addition the word oshougatsu means "New Year's" also but it refers to the first 3 days of January. In some case it can be the first 7 or even 20 days of the new year.(referenced Japanese wikipedia) | |||
